Speaking of packaging with an hourglass shape, we looked at “plasma pinched” soda cans like the one on the right a while back, but I just recently found these videos of an electromagnetic can smasher that cuts soda cans in half in a pretty dynamic manner.
The can crusher videos are from the University of Maryland’s physics lab. The all feature a Diet Coke can, whose “waist” is so abruptly “pinched” by electromagnetic forces, that it splits into two halves.
Although we’re mostly in the habit of recycling, perhaps donating our packaging to science might be a better option for us in the future.
