Mr. Toast & Lead Bread

While researching the previous post about Jasper Johns & those Ballantine Ale cans, I happened to see the left hand photo of Dan Goodsell’s Mr. Toast character in close proximity to Jasper Johns’ “Painted Bronze” at the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

Which was I thought was interesting since Johns —(not generally thought of as a portraitist)— also did the artwork on the right.

Beside being an illustrator and creator of various and sundry anthropomorphic toys, Dan Goodsell is co-author (along with Steve Roden) of the vintage packaging book “Krazy Kids Foods.”

Those little soy sauce packets come with takeout sushi and can be found all over Japan.
