Above: somebody’s animated gif made from the 1966 Warhol “screen test” of Lou Reed drinking a Coke.
Sad to hear about him dying yesterday.
The truism —about how everybody who bought a copy of the first Velvet Underground album wound up forming their own band— is largely a comment on his influence.
One band, that I personally wanted to form, that never quite got off the ground, was to be called “Two Bit Friends” a phrase you hear in more than one Lou Reed song.
The video below shows the aforementioned Warhol “screen test” but the soundtrack is not Lou Reed, although it does sound like him.
Dean & Britta (ex-Luna, Galaxie 500) were commissioned by the Andy Warhol Museum to compose and perform songs for 13 Screen Tests – short, silent portrait films made by Warhol in the mid-’60s.
